Tiantangzhai is a mountain summit reaching 1,729 meters that straddles the border between Hubei and Anhui provinces in eastern China. The peak encompasses three national forest parks and contains numerous hiking trails across different terrain types.
The mountain was known as Yun Shan during the Tang dynasty and later renamed Duoyun Shan in the Yuan period. It received its present name during the Qing era and has remained Tiantangzhai since then.
The mountain draws visitors who come to experience the ridge walks and mountain sanctuary atmosphere that define the region's outdoor culture. Local communities have long used these slopes as part of their daily connection to the natural world.
The mountain trails are open from 09:00 to 17:00 daily with routes suitable for different fitness levels. Wear sturdy hiking boots and bring plenty of water, especially during warmer hours of the day.
The mountain area is home to around 1,000 plant and animal species, including rare protected plants like Chinese plum yew. Among the most notable inhabitants are 18 uncommon animal species, with leopards being among the most significant residents.
