People's Park, Urban park in Donghu District, Nanchang, China.
People's Park is a 32.6-hectare green space in central Nanchang, filled with thousands of trees from many different species that provide shade and color throughout the seasons. The park has level pathways, planted flower beds, and a dedicated orchid garden set among the main grounds.
The site opened in 1954 as New Park and received its current name in 1958, with the name written in traditional script by a prominent military figure. This early development made it one of the city's first modern green spaces.
The park draws on Jiangnan garden design traditions, with sections that invite quiet walks and reflection among planted flowers and trees. Local residents gather here regularly, making it a social meeting place woven into the rhythm of the city.
The grounds are centrally located and freely accessible to all visitors, with benches for resting and shaded spots throughout. The pathways are flat and well-kept, making a comfortable walk or picnic enjoyable for all fitness levels.
The grounds contain one of the largest collections of different tree species found anywhere in the downtown area, which is unusual for an urban space. This botanical diversity developed through careful selection and gradual planting over many decades.
