Jiuyuangang, Archaeological cemetery in Xinzhou, China.
Jiuyuangang is a tomb with rounded corners whose burial chamber is reached through a passage approximately 31 meters long. The walls are covered with frescoes dating to the Northern Dynasty period.
Excavations in 2013 revealed this tomb from the Eastern Wei to Northern Qi period. The burial likely belonged to a member of the influential Gao family.
The paintings on the tomb walls show guards, generals, and hunting scenes created by artists of that era. These artworks reveal how people lived and which deities held meaning for the community at that time.
The site is managed and studied by the Shanxi Provincial Archaeological Institute working together with the Xinzhou Municipal Archaeological Institute. Visitors should check access beforehand since the location remains an active research area.
Advanced digital methods were used during excavation to record every detail of the paintings. This created the first complete digital documentation of Chinese tomb paintings of this kind.
