Naozhou Lighthouse

Naozhou Lighthouse is a beacon structure on an island off Zhanjiang's coast that guides ships through the waters. It rises over 100 meters above sea level and sends out regular light signals that seafarers can spot from many kilometers away.

The structure was built in 1904 by French authorities when this area was under French control. It later passed through different hands before becoming part of China's navigation system.

The lighthouse represents a key point in the island's maritime past and shows how Naozhou served as a vital hub for sea traffic. Visitors today can see how shipping routes still depend on such structures for navigation.

Access to the island is by ferry from the mainland harbor, which runs on a regular schedule. Visitors should prepare for sea conditions and wear comfortable shoes, as the path to the lighthouse crosses uneven terrain.

The lighthouse once used a manual lighting system operated by a keeper before it was later automated. This old method shows how navigation aids worked before modern technology took over.
