China Resources Tower is a 392.5-meter-high building with 67 floors that tapers toward the top and is supported by 56 steel columns. Its structure allows spacious office floors without interior supports throughout most of its levels.
Construction began in 2012, the structure topped out on 1 July 2016 and the tower was completed in June 2018, opening on 17 December 2018 ahead of China Resources' 80th anniversary. On completion it passed Shun Hing Square as Shenzhen's third tallest building. Floors 49 to 66 house China Resources' mainland headquarters, replacing its former offices in Luohu.
The building connects contemporary design with references to Chinese nature, as its architects drew inspiration from the shape of young bamboo shoots. Visitors can notice this subtle connection between modern materials and traditional forms that shapes the structure.
The tower has 60 vertical elevators in its core, some reaching 33 km/h, using Hitachi's FIBEE destination-control system, the third installation worldwide. The mall at its base links by pedestrian tunnel to Houhai Station on Metro Line 11 and to Shenzhen Bay Sports Centre. Office floors are column-free, with the core set back along the height.
The tower's facade is fixed with German V-shaped grooves, a safety measure adopted because of the unusual curtain wall shape. The building uses Hitachi lifts with the world's third FIBEE intelligent destination system, after Guangzhou's Chow Tai Fook Finance Centre. The 49th to 66th floors hold China Resources' mainland headquarters, and the 20th floor is a show floor for prospective tenants.
