Bailang River Bridge Ferris Wheel, Centreless Ferris wheel in Weifang, China.
The Bailang River Bridge Ferris wheel is a centerless observation wheel located in Weifang, standing 145 meters (476 feet) tall. It features 36 enclosed cabins arranged around its outer frame rather than supported by traditional central spokes.
The wheel was designed and built between 2012 and 2017, introducing a fresh approach to observation wheel design. This construction period marked an important shift in how engineers approached the structure of large rotating attractions.
This structure represents the advancement of Chinese engineering capabilities and serves as a central landmark in the Weifang Binhai Economic Development Zone.
Each cabin holds up to 10 passengers and provides windows for viewing the surrounding landscape. A complete rotation takes about 30 minutes, giving visitors enough time to enjoy the area and take photos.
The internal structure uses an advanced grid system known as the dragon spine that eliminates the need for heavy central spokes. This network of steel components weighs more than 4000 tons and represents an engineering solution rarely seen in other observation wheels.
