Huangzhou Wind-rain Bridge, Covered bridge in Huangzhou, Xinhuang, China
Huangzhou Wind-rain Bridge is a covered bridge over the Wu River in the town of Huangzhou, Xinhuang, China. It carries vehicles and pedestrians across the river, with two entrance gateways and five drum towers rising along its sides.
Construction of the bridge began in March 2011 and it opened to the public in January 2014. The project took about three years and cost close to 30 million yuan.
The bridge is open to both pedestrians and vehicles, and the best overall view of its gateways and towers is from the riverbank. Visiting early in the morning or in the evening allows for a calmer walk across.
Along the full length of the bridge, 488 carved eaves hang over the sides, each topped with a stone throstle. The carvings on the entrance towers depict landscapes and motifs from the ethnic groups of the local area.
