Ruyi Bridge, Steel footbridge in Xianju County, China.
Ruyi Bridge connects two mountain peaks in Shenxianju Valley with three curved walkways made of steel, glass and titanium. The arches cross in the middle and form different levels connected by stairs.
Construction lasted from 2017 to 2020 and set new standards in modern Chinese engineering. The structure was designed by He Yunchang, who also worked on the Olympic stadium in Beijing.
The crossing follows the shape of a ruyi scepter, which in Chinese tradition expresses luck and power. Visitors can see the gorge below through glass sections while experiencing this centuries-old symbolism.
The walkways allow access to different areas of the scenic park and offer perspectives from different heights. Those comfortable with heights can enjoy the view downward through the glass floors, while others can focus on the surrounding peaks.
The paths seem to float between the rocks because the support structure blends quietly into the cliff walls. On sunny days the arches cast curved shadows on the valley that shift with the position of the sun.
