Hauenschild palace, Renaissance palace in Olomouc, Czech Republic
Hauenschild palace is a Renaissance building in Olomouc with a two-story corner bay window and richly decorated facades. The structure blends Renaissance and Baroque styles while housing restaurants and shops inside its spaces today.
The palace was built in 1583 by the Hauenschild family of Furstenfeld using the foundations of two earlier Gothic houses. These foundations show how architectural layers accumulated at this location over centuries.
During a notable visit in 1767, eleven-year-old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed his sixth symphony in F-major while staying at the palace with his family.
The palace stands at Dolni Namesti 38 and lies within five minutes walk from the central Town Hall. Visitors can stop at restaurants inside and explore the interior through accessing the shops located there.
The corner sculptures display scenes from Ovid's Metamorphoses based on designs by artist Vergil Solis. These reliefs are easily overlooked details that few visitors notice, though they represent remarkable artistic work.
