Church of Saint Lawrence

The Church of Saint Lawrence is a Gothic structure with a Renaissance belfry that dominates the largest city square in the Czech Republic. The interior contains architectural elements from multiple periods reflecting its various renovations over the centuries.

The building was constructed in the second half of the 13th century as a Gothic church with solid stone foundations. After a fire in the 16th century, it received a new Renaissance-style belfry completed in 1585.

The church serves as the spiritual heart of the town, welcoming visitors to masses and religious celebrations throughout the year. Its presence shapes daily life around the square and connects generations of worshippers.

The building stands on the main square in the town center and is easy to reach on foot. Visiting works best during daylight hours when natural light illuminates the interior and surroundings are fully visible.

A major fire in the early modern period destroyed large portions of the original structure and forced a Renaissance-style rebuild. This reconstruction shaped the church's appearance for centuries to come.
