Nassau Castle, Medieval castle in Nassau, Germany
Nassau Castle stands on a rock outcropping 120 meters above the Lahn River, featuring a five-sided keep that reaches 33 meters in height.
The castle was established around 1100 by Dudo of Laurenburg, becoming the original seat of the House of Nassau through successive generations of nobility.
The castle represents the architectural traditions of medieval German fortifications, with its late-Romanesque main building constructed between 1220 and 1230.
The State Castle Administration of Rhineland-Palatinate maintains the site and provides public access for visitors interested in exploring the medieval structures.
Archaeological excavations in 1970 revealed the castle's original walls, leading to extensive restoration works that began in 1976 to preserve its historical elements.
