Wieskirche, Catholic pilgrimage church in Steingaden, Germany
The Wieskirche displays white walls adorned with frescoes, golden ornaments, and detailed stucco work throughout its oval-shaped interior space.
Architect Dominikus Zimmermann completed the construction of this religious edifice between 1745 and 1754 as a response to reported miraculous tears.
The church interior combines religious elements with artistic features through ceiling paintings, sculptures, and architectural details in the Rococo style.
Visitors can access the church daily from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, with guided tours available in multiple languages upon advance reservation.
The oval-shaped sanctuary contains a wooden figure of the Scourged Savior, which reportedly shed tears in 1738 and initiated the pilgrimage tradition.
