The Ohel Jakob Synagogue features two distinct architectural elements: a stone base structure and an elevated glass cube with metallic Star of David patterns.
The synagogue opened on November 9, 2006, exactly 68 years after the destruction of Munich's original synagogue during the events of Kristallnacht.
The synagogue serves as the central worship location for Munich's Jewish community of 9,500 members, making it the second largest congregation in Germany.
Visitors can participate in guided tours offered in multiple languages, including German, English, French, Italian, Russian, and Hebrew, with advance reservations required.
An underground passage called Gang der Erinnerung contains a memorial dedicated to 4,500 Munich Jews who perished during the Nazi regime.
