Zeitpyramide, Step pyramid art installation in Wemding, Germany
The Time Pyramid is a concrete art installation on Robertshöhe hill at the northern edge of Wemding, made of stacked blocks arranged in a stepped formation. The structure stands 9.2 meters tall and has a base of 15 by 15 meters.
Construction began in 1993 to mark Wemding's 1200th anniversary since its founding. A new block is added every 10 years, with this process continuing until the year 3183.
The Time Pyramid shows how a community marks the passage of time through art that grows slowly over centuries. Visitors witness a work that connects people from different generations through a shared, patient vision.
The installation sits on a hill at the northern edge of town and is easily accessible on foot. The site is open to visitors at any time, so you can pass by whenever you like to see its current state.
Each new block added weighs around 6.5 tonnes and is welcomed by the community with a special ceremony. These occasions bring people together to physically mark time in a way that spans centuries.
