Freilassing Locomotive World, Railway museum in Freilassing, Germany.
Freilassing Locomotive World is a railway museum housed in a circular engine shed with display tracks and exhibitions. Inside stand steam locomotives and other rail vehicles from different eras, arranged around an original turntable from the early 1900s.
The facility served as a major locomotive maintenance center from 1905 until 1994, with over 1000 workers at its peak. After closure, the building was converted into a museum to preserve the railway heritage of the region.
The site shows how railways shaped daily life in the region and what the railway hub meant to the community. Visitors can see how railway workers operated and how important this place was for local livelihood.
The museum is easily reached on foot from Freilassing train station and offers wheelchair access to all areas. The hall can be cool, especially in winter months, so dressing in layers is recommended.
The original turntable from 1902 still works and is occasionally operated to show how locomotives were moved in the past. This functioning technical relic lets visitors experience an important piece of railway history in action.
