Burghausen Castle, Medieval castle in Burghausen, Germany
The castle extends for 1051 meters along a ridge between the Salzach River and Wöhrsee, featuring defensive walls, towers, and six successive courtyards.
The Wittelsbach dynasty acquired the castle in 1180 and transformed it into their second residence from 1255 to 1503, after their main seat in Landshut.
The castle museum displays medieval apartments in the Palas building, presenting furniture and artifacts that demonstrate the lifestyle of Bavarian nobility.
Visitors can explore the main castle and five outer courtyards, each containing different structures such as the arsenal, brewery, bakery, and medieval chapel.
The castle holds the record for the longest castle complex in the world, stretching over one kilometer along a narrow mountain ridge above Burghausen.
