Altes Grassimuseum, Art Deco museum building in Leipzig, Germany
The Altes Grassimuseum features three distinct museums within its complex, dedicated to applied arts, ethnology, and musical instruments of Leipzig University.
Built between 1925 and 1929, the museum suffered severe damage during World War II in 1943 and underwent reconstruction starting in 1947.
The museum holds the annual GRASSIMESSE fair every October, presenting works from 100 exhibitors in the fields of applied arts and design.
The museum complex spans 27,000 square meters and contains multiple exhibition halls connected by a central pillar hall with distinctive zigzag patterns.
The building incorporates eighteen high windows designed by Josef Albers in 1926, displaying rational Bauhaus aesthetics along the main staircase.
