Altes Schloss

The Altes Schloss in Pappenheim is a building defined by four corner towers, round windows, and a column-framed entrance portal that shows Renaissance design principles. The structure sits at Graf-Carl-Straße 13 and blends elements from multiple construction periods.

The building was constructed before the 16th century as a residence for the Counts of Pappenheim and gradually lost its primary role when a new palace was built in 1593. This marks a turning point in the town's architectural history and the family's changing needs.

Inside, you can see late Gothic doors and window frames from older structures, along with decorative stucco ceilings that reflect different periods of the building's past.

The building sits centrally at Graf-Carl-Straße 13 and today functions as offices and residential spaces for current users. Since it remains in active use, public access inside is not available for visitors.

A simple Baroque building once stood along the inner courtyard facing toward the Altmühl River, positioned along the city wall between two round towers. This arrangement shows how the castle was woven into the town's defensive structure.
