Rathaus Altenburg, Renaissance town hall in Altenburg, Germany
The Altenburg Town Hall features a regular facade with three floors, rectangular windows, cornices, and an octagonal stair tower at its center front.
Constructed between 1561 and 1564 under architect Nikolaus Gromann's plans, with Caspar Böschel managing the building's execution during the Renaissance period.
The building displays relief sculptures depicting biblical scenes, Saxon dukes, and cherubs on its corner bay windows, created by Hermann Werner's workshop from Gotha.
The ground floor houses the Ratskeller, supported by columns with figurative capitals and cross-ribbed vaults that form part of the building's structure.
The town hall received its first renovation in 1663, followed by another in 1864, and gained a harmoniously designed savings bank extension in 1923.
