Rose Garden, Rose garden in Coburg, Germany.
The Rose Garden is a park in Coburg's city center featuring roughly 72 rose varieties planted along winding paths, with ponds and water features throughout the grounds. The site also includes a palm house, five bird aviaries, and various water basins that give the space its distinctive character.
The site began in 1846 when Coburg purchased a field called Zollbauernwiese and gradually transformed it into a public space. Its reputation as a rose showcase was firmly established during the 1929 German Rose Revue, which marked a turning point in how the city viewed horticulture.
Memorial stones honor composer Johann Strauss and Julius Popp, showing how the city connects its horticultural spaces to local artistic figures. These tributes sit quietly among the plantings, allowing visitors to discover the story of people important to Coburg while walking.
The garden is free to enter and open throughout the day, while the attached palm house has varying hours depending on the season. It helps to allow plenty of time for strolling and to check the palm house seasonal schedule if you want to see tropical plants.
The Sintflutbrunnen fountain, designed by Ferdinand Lepcke, anchors the garden with its striking artistic presence and detailed craftsmanship. The orchid section inside the palm house displays rare tropical varieties that many visitors miss while focusing only on the rose beds.
