Haselünne, Historical Hanseatic city in Emsland, Germany

Haselünne is a town on the Hase River in the Emsland region and spreads across both banks over a wide area. The settlement features typical brick buildings and green spaces that connect the water with the surrounding landscape.

The town developed as a trading settlement and later joined the Hanseatic League, a medieval merchant network. During the Thirty Years War, a major military clash occurred here in 1636 that shaped the region.

The town takes its name from the Hase River, around which it developed and which still shapes the townscape today. Local residents use the riverbanks for walks and connect with their community's past through this natural feature.

The town is well served by public transportation with bus stops for navigation in the center. A car is helpful for exploring the wider areas and surrounding landscapes.

Scottish Highland cattle graze freely in a special pasture within the flat landscape of Lower Saxony. These cattle are an unusual addition and create an interesting contrast to the surrounding North German nature.
