Babenhausen

The town center features timber-framed buildings, including the Witch Tower and the old marketplace surrounded by traditional patrician houses dating from 1461.

Babenhausen developed as a residence city of the Counts of Hanau-Lichtenberg, with the St. Nicholas Church constructed in 1262 displaying medieval frescoes.

The Territorial Museum, opened in 2014 inside the Gayling administrative building from 1555, presents the regional history through narrative galleries.

The town offers guided tours focusing on timber architecture, wild Przewalski horses, and Jewish cemeteries, with maps available at the information center.

A protected natural monument, the Pyramid Oak tree stands 20 meters tall with a 4.15-meter trunk circumference and dates back 580 years.
