Coburg Fortress, Medieval fortress in Coburg, Germany.
The Coburg Fortress stands on a hilltop at 464 meters elevation, featuring multiple towers, defensive walls, and courtyards across its extensive grounds.
Built in 1225 as a military stronghold, the fortress served as a refuge for Martin Luther in 1530 during his translation of the Bible.
The fortress contains a collection of medieval weapons, hunting artifacts, and artistic works from the Saxon-Thuringian region in its museum sections.
Visitors reach the fortress through a 30-minute walk up the hill from Coburg town center, passing through the Hofgarten park.
The fortress houses the largest collection of medieval carriages and sleighs in Germany, with over 150 preserved specimens from different periods.
