Konstanz Synagogue

Konstanz Synagogue is a Jewish house of worship in Constance that combines modern architecture with Romanesque Revival elements. The facade on the narrow street features horizontal striping, and the interior provides space for about 300 members with separate areas for different prayer practices.

The original building was erected in 1883 but was destroyed in 1938, stripping the Jewish community of its house of worship. The new building, which opened in 2019, stands about 50 meters away from the original site.

The building brings together two different Jewish communities under one roof. You can see how the space is designed to allow both groups to worship side by side.

A visit is usually possible by advance arrangement, as this is an active community center rather than a public museum. It is helpful to contact the community in advance to clarify visiting times and any viewing opportunities.

The rebuilding process involved careful planning, as the project symbolizes the return of a destroyed religious community. The new building was funded by the Baden Regional Jewish Community and represents a deliberate new beginning after decades of absence.
