Arbeitserziehungslager Nordmark, Labor education camp memorial in Kiel, Germany.
The Arbeitserziehungslager Nordmark was a detention camp run by the Gestapo between 1944 and 1945 at this location in Kiel. Today, three information panels and a memorial stone mark where this facility once operated.
The Gestapo established this camp in summer 1944 for imprisoning people and operated it until May 1945. Thousands lost their lives during this brief period at this location.
The memorial was established through private initiatives, particularly by the Research Working Group on National Socialism in Schleswig-Holstein, which championed its creation since the 1980s. The site today serves as a place where visitors can acknowledge the suffering that occurred here.
The memorial is located about 150 meters from Rendsburger Landstrasse and can be reached via the hiking path along Russee. There is ample parking available nearby for visitors.
The central memorial stone incorporates a foundation stone that Polish forced laborers laid in 1946 for an earlier monument. This element connects early remembrance efforts with the current memorial.
