Frankfurt Germany Temple, Religious temple in Friedrichsdorf, Germany
The Frankfurt Germany Temple is a temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located in Friedrichsdorf, a small town just north of Frankfurt. The building has white granite walls and a copper roof, and it sits on a large plot of land away from the surrounding residential streets.
The temple was dedicated in 1987 and was the second of its kind to open in Germany. Its construction took place during a period when the church was actively expanding its presence across Europe.
The temple is a place where members gather for ceremonies that are not held in regular Sunday meetinghouses of their faith. For many who visit, the trip itself is treated as a meaningful occasion, and people often travel long distances to be there.
The site sits in Friedrichsdorf and is easiest to reach by car, as it is away from the city center and main public transport routes. Access inside the temple is limited to church members, so visitors who are not members can generally only view the building from the outside.
Just before the official dedication in August 1987, the building opened for public tours and tens of thousands of people came to walk through it. These open tours happen only in the brief period before a temple begins regular use, after which the interior is no longer open to the general public.
