Sammlung Falckenberg, Contemporary art museum in Hamburg-Harburg, Germany
Sammlung Falckenberg is a contemporary art museum in the Harburg district of Hamburg, housed in a former industrial building of the Phoenix rubber factory. The building spans several floors, where works are arranged in changing thematic groupings across large open spaces.
The building originally belonged to the Phoenix rubber works and was later converted into an exhibition space for the private collection of Hamburg entrepreneur Harald Falckenberg. In 2011, the collection joined Deichtorhallen Hamburg while remaining in the same industrial structure.
The collection focuses on works that challenge social norms, with a strong presence of Pop Art, Neue Wilde, and Conceptual Art. Walking through the rooms, visitors encounter pieces that are meant to provoke rather than simply please.
Access to the museum is only possible through guided tours, since it is a private collection that is not open to the general public every day. It is worth checking in advance which tours are available and whether booking is required.
The museum uses a mobile shelving system that allows works not currently on display to be pulled out and viewed during guided tours. This means visitors can see far more than what is visible in a standard gallery setting.
