Auerbach

Auerbach is an administrative district of Bensheim positioned on the western slopes of the Odenwald mountains, surrounded by vineyards and orchards. The area spans roughly 57 hectares and contains about 550 land parcels that create a patchwork of agricultural fields and planted areas.

The first written mention dates between 781 and 786, when Charlemagne gifted the territory to Lorsch Monastery. This early connection to the church shaped the region's development for centuries afterward.

The neighborhood has deep roots in wine production that shape how people live and celebrate throughout the year. Local wine festivals bring the community together, offering chances to taste regional varieties and meet the families who work the vineyards.

The coat of arms displays the lion of the Counts of Katzenelnbogen, reflecting medieval power structures that once governed here. Three golden coins in the design reference Saint Nicholas, showing how religious traditions left their mark on local identity.
