Lauterbach Nord station, Railway station and cultural heritage monument in Lauterbach, Germany.
Lauterbach (Hess) Nord is a railway station in Hesse with two platform tracks situated at 284 meters elevation. The station building is legally protected as a monument and currently serves dual purposes including housing the headquarters of a railway advocacy organization.
The station opened on November 22, 1870, during construction of the Alsfeld-Lauterbach section of the Vogelsberg Railway. This line connected the region to larger cities and shaped local transport patterns for more than a century and a half.
The station building reflects typical 19th-century railway architecture and serves as a reminder of the station's former role as a community gathering place. The preserved structure shows how transportation hubs were designed as important civic landmarks.
The station provides bicycle storage, taxi services, and parking spaces for travelers. Current train information is available on-site to help with travel planning.
The station building currently houses the headquarters of the Pro Bahn & Bus association, a passenger advocacy organization for rail and public transit. This dual use is unusual and demonstrates how heritage structures continue playing an active role in modern railway operations.
