Bettenhäuser Straße 1

This site contains remains of three castles that together form a medieval castle complex within present-day Hungen in Hesse. The layout shows how multiple fortifications were constructed in this area.

These fortifications arose in the Middle Ages as protective structures for the region and reflect the security concerns of that time. Multiple building phases show how defense needs changed over centuries.

The ruins display medieval construction approaches used in this region, with stone remains that are still visible today. You can see from these structures how defensive layouts were designed in that era.

The remains lie at the edge of Bellersheim and can be reached on foot, with walking paths making access easier. It helps to wear sturdy shoes, as the ground is uneven and parts of the structures are partially sunken into the earth.

The three separate castle remains can be clearly distinguished from one another and show different building styles from different periods. This makes the location a rare example of how fortification design evolved in a compact area.
