Bataillon Elektronische Kampfführung 932, Electronic warfare battalion in Frankenberg, Germany
The Bataillon Elektronische Kampfführung 932 is an active German military unit based in Frankenberg that focuses on electronic reconnaissance, signal monitoring, and the protection of military communications. It is stationed at the Burgwald-Kaserne and is one of the Bundeswehr's units dedicated to electronic warfare.
The unit was founded on May 1, 1962, growing out of earlier signal communication troops within the Bundeswehr. Over the following decades it evolved into a dedicated electronic warfare unit and moved into the newly built Burgwald-Kaserne.
The battalion's motto is "Scientia potentia est", meaning "knowledge is power". This phrase sums up how the unit sees its role: gathering and protecting information is at the heart of what its personnel do every day.
The site is an active military barracks and is not open to the public. Information about the unit can be gathered from outside, but entry to any operational area is not permitted.
In 2003, the battalion was recognized by the Association of Old Crows, an international body of electronic warfare professionals, as a leading military institution in its field. Recognition from a civilian professional association is unusual for a Bundeswehr unit.
