Berger Warte, Medieval watchtower in Seckbach, Germany.
Berger Warte is a medieval sandstone watchtower in Frankfurt-Ost, part of the Regionalpark Rhein-Main. The round tower still stands in the open landscape, surrounded by a dry circular moat that runs around its base.
The current stone tower was built in 1557, replacing an older wooden structure that had stood on the same spot. It was part of a network of towers meant to monitor the Hohen Strasse, one of the main trade routes through the region.
The tower stands along the old Hohen Strasse trade route, which once carried merchants and travelers through this part of the region. Walking past it today, you can still sense how this corridor shaped movement and exchange in the area.
The tower sits within the Regionalpark Rhein-Main and is reached by marked footpaths that connect to the wider trail network in the area. It fits naturally into a longer walk through the park and does not require much planning.
The dry moat surrounding the tower is still intact and clearly visible from ground level, which is rare among towers of this type. Most comparable structures lost their moats over time as the land around them was reworked.
