Bildeiche bei Albertshausen, Natural monument oak tree in Bad Kissingen, Germany
The Bildeiche is a massive oak tree standing about 24 meters tall with a trunk circumference of about 8 meters, located in a wooded area near Albertshausen. The tree is surrounded by a hornbeam hedge and sits close to a road.
The tree was deliberately spared around 1810 during forest clearing operations when surrounding land was converted to farmland. This decision left it as a remnant from an earlier era.
The tree carries a figure of Archangel Michael attached to its trunk, linking it to local religious tradition. Visitors can observe how this spiritual connection shapes the site as a place of reverence.
Access is via a road connector southeast of Albertshausen heading toward the highway, with parking available near the site. A short walk from the parking area leads directly to the tree.
The trunk features a large opening on its north side that leads into the completely hollow interior of the tree. This striking feature shows how the tree has managed to survive for centuries despite being entirely hollow.
