Observation Tower at Goetzinger's Height, Observation tower on mountain summit in Neustadt in Sachsen, Germany.
The Observation Tower at Goetzinger's Height is a 25-meter steel structure standing at about 425 meters elevation on a mountain summit. It offers far-reaching views across the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and the Ore Mountains.
The tower was built in 1883 by the boiler works Louis Kühne from Dresden, making it older than the Eiffel Tower. The structure has shaped this mountain landscape for over a century.
The mountain and tower received their name from Wilhelm Leberecht Götzinger, a local historian who documented the surrounding landscapes extensively.
A renovated inn beside the tower offers food and lodging for visitors throughout the year. The climb to the summit is manageable and the entire area can be easily explored from this vantage point.
In winter the mountain slope becomes a toboggan run about 500 meters long, a tradition dating back to 1926. This seasonal use keeps the site popular with visitors throughout the year.
