Blauenthaler Wasserfall

Blauenthaler Wasserfall, Artificial waterfall in Eibenstock, Germany.

Blauenthaler Wasserfall is an artificial waterfall in the Erzgebirge mountains that drops roughly 30 meters over steep granite cliffs. The water cascades down in multiple stages, creating a striking sight within the forest landscape.

The waterfall originated from a water channel constructed after World War I by mill owner Toelle to generate power for his grinding facility. Over time, this industrial structure evolved into a place where visitors come to enjoy nature.

The place shows how this region has changed its relationship with water over time. Today visitors come to experience the natural display, whereas water once served mainly industrial purposes.

The site is accessible via several hiking trails of varying difficulty levels that lead to different viewpoints. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and be prepared for potentially slippery ground, especially near the water.

During colder months, the waterfall freezes into a solid sheet of ice that attracts ice climbers from across the region. This transformation makes winter visits a completely different experience from any other time of year.
