Wiesenthau Castle, Renaissance castle in Wiesenthau, Germany
The three-winged country house features four corner towers from the mid-16th century and maintains sections of its original defensive walls.
The castle, first documented in 1379, changed ownership when part of it was sold to the Bishopric of Bamberg on June 25th of that year.
The structure represents the architectural traditions of northern Bavaria, reflecting the regional building methods of the Renaissance period.
Following extensive renovations from 1985 to 1992, the castle now functions as a hotel, offering accommodations to visitors in northern Bavaria.
The castle sustained damage during two major conflicts: first by Hussite forces in 1430 and later during the German Peasants' War of 1525.
