Düppel museum village, Open-air medieval museum in Steglitz-Zehlendorf, Germany.
The Düppel Museum Village is an open-air archaeological site covering eight hectares with reconstructed medieval buildings, workshops, gardens, and cultivated fields. The structures are built based on remains and artifacts discovered during excavations of the former settlement.
Archaeological digs in the 1960s uncovered remains of a settlement from 1170 that functioned as a waystation for travelers crossing the region. The original community was eventually abandoned, but the discoveries allowed researchers to reconstruct its buildings and way of life accurately.
The crafts and farming methods displayed here show how medieval people managed their daily work and survival. Visitors can watch traditional skills practiced the way they were centuries ago.
The site is accessible from March through November with guided tours on Sundays and holidays to help you understand the medieval setting. Wear sturdy footwear since paths cross through fields and unpaved ground.
The site maintains historic animal breeds and historic plant varieties that were used in medieval farming. These animals and plants give visitors an authentic sense of what food sources and daily work looked like hundreds of years ago.
