Alsterdorfer Sporthalle, Sports arena in Winterhude, Hamburg, Germany
The Alsterdorfer Sporthalle is a multipurpose arena in Winterhude, Hamburg-Nord, offering 4,144 fixed seats and capacity for up to 7,000 people during concerts without interior seating. The facility includes a grandstand, a specialized spring floor for sporting events, and a modern sound system for different uses.
The hall opened in 1968 and served for over three decades as Hamburg's main venue for sporting events and concerts. After renovations in 1991, it remained the city's central multipurpose building until the Barclays Arena opened in 2002.
The hall carries a straightforward northern German aesthetic that matches its role as a multipurpose space where local sports clubs train and concertgoers from across the city gather. The name refers to nearby Alsterdorf district even though the building itself stands in Winterhude, connecting two neighborhoods through its identity.
The hall sits close to Lattenkamp subway station on the U1 line, making arrival from all parts of Hamburg straightforward. Many events include round-trip public transport in the ticket price.
The annual police sports festival takes place in this hall and combines athletic performances with community outreach programs. The event draws families and onlookers who gain insight into different sports and law enforcement demonstrations.
