Muskau Bend Landscape Park, Cross-border landscape park in Lubusz Voivodeship, Poland and Saxony, Germany.
Muskau Bend Landscape Park is a cross-border protected area spanning about 40 kilometers with elevated ridges along the Neisse River. The terrain features characteristic formations about 3 to 5 kilometers wide with hills reaching about 300 meters (approximately 1,000 feet) above the surrounding land.
The landscape formed during the Ice Age when Scandinavian glaciers shaped the terrain into a horseshoe pattern. These ancient glacial processes created the distinctive topography visible across the park today.
The name comes from the Sorbian language and refers to a historical region where Slavic communities established settlements in medieval times.
The park offers hiking paths, cycling routes, horse trails, and kayaking opportunities on the river for exploring the area. These different activities allow visitors to experience the landscape according to their preferences and fitness level.
The area is home to a rare pine variant called Lusatian spruce that shows special resistance to late frosts. This specialized tree species reflects unique ecological conditions that developed in this border region.
