Marienrode Priory, Cistercian monastery in Hildesheim, Germany
The monastery features a Gothic three-nave church completed in 1462, sandstone buildings from the 18th century, and a central pigeon tower in the courtyard.
The site began as an Augustinian monastery in 1125, transitioned to Cistercian monks in 1259, and received its current name Marienrode in 1439.
Two baroque altars from 1750, a Gothic sandstone sculpture of Saint Mary from 1460, and an 18th-century organ enhance the church interior.
A 200-year-old linden tree avenue with historic pavements leads visitors to the monastery grounds, where guided tours explain monastic traditions.
The monastery includes Saint Cosmas and Damian Chapel from 1792, which transformed into a Protestant church in 1830 with an altar from 1835.
