The Bremer Geschichtenhaus is a children's museum in central Bremen that brings the city's history to life through performers wearing period costumes. In different rooms, visitors can step into various time periods and experience the stories of Bremen directly.
The museum opened in May 2006 as a project of the employment agency bras e.V. – arbeiten für bremen, housed in the St.-Jakobus-Packhaus, Bremen's oldest surviving warehouse, first documented in 1660 and listed as a monument since 1973. Long-term unemployed people and refugees were trained as performers and guides, and since 2007 the house has also kept and cared for the Schnoor archive.
The building itself tells stories of old Bremen - you walk through spaces that feel like they belong to different times in the city's past. As you move from room to room, you see how people lived and what mattered to them in each era.
The museum is easy to reach on foot and sits in the old town, where many other museums and historic sites are located. Plan to spend time if you come with children, as the interactive rooms invite lingering.
