The castle stands on a rocky elevation above the Inn River, featuring a combination of medieval fortification and Rococo architectural elements throughout its structure.
Constructed in the 14th century by Bavarian dukes, the castle underwent significant renovations between 1750 and 1752 under architect Johann Michael Fischer's direction.
The castle complex includes a Baroque church built between 1902 and 1903, designed by Munich architect J. B. Schott with input from Sulzbacher builder Capellaro.
The structure now operates as a secondary school for students, with specific visiting hours and guided tours available through the local tourism office.
The English Sisters Institute acquired the castle in 1859 for 9000 guilders, establishing the first female educational institution within its walls.
