Brautwiesenplatz, Cultural heritage square in Görlitz, Germany.
Brautwiesenplatz is a circular square in Görlitz with a green roundel at its center and six streets radiating outward like spokes. This layout creates an important traffic junction in the western part of the city.
The square was created in 1900 as a new traffic junction and was renamed Danziger Freiheit during the Nazi period. After 1945, the original name was restored.
The name comes from former bridal meadows that once existed outside the city walls. This rural past still echoes in the green roundel at the square's center.
The square functions as a roundabout connecting several main streets. Pedestrians and cyclists can use the well-developed paths around the green center.
A land agreement in 1865 between property owners and the city laid the foundation for this square's development. Former open meadows were intentionally transformed into an organized urban space with geometric design.
