Burg Bocksberg, Medieval castle ruins in Laugna, Germany.
Burg Bocksberg is a medieval castle ruin on a hilltop south of the Augsburg district of Laugna. The surviving remains include ditches, earthworks, and the foundation of a defensive tower that shaped the former stronghold.
The castle was founded in the early 13th century by the Lords of Bocksberg as a residential stronghold. After losing their original control in 1322, the site changed hands among various Augsburg noble families for generations.
The castle grounds were inhabited and shaped by different Augsburg patrician families over many centuries. Visitors can still see traces of this changing ownership in the structure of the site today.
The site now functions as a festival ground with electrical infrastructure that allows it to host public events. You can visit at any time, as the hilltop and its remains are freely accessible to the public.
The main castle plateau preserves the foundations of a former residential tower built with smooth conglomerate stone blocks. These carefully shaped blocks reveal the craftsmanship of medieval builders.
