Burg Reichenstein, Castle ruins in Neckargemünd, Germany
The rectangular fortress sits on the northern section of Hollmuth ridge, featuring remnants of medieval sandstone walls and a moat system.
Built around 1220 as an imperial castle by the Staufer dynasty, the Knights of Muren managed it until the Electorate of the Palatinate took control.
The ruins became a destination for Heidelberg students during the Romantic period, leading to its integration into a public park in 1926.
Visitors can access the castle remains through marked paths, with parking facilities available 100 meters from the site entrance.
Archaeological excavations in 1989 revealed numerous objects from the 13th and 14th centuries during the construction of a water reservoir.
