Düben Castle

Duben Castle stands on a hilltop beside the Mulde River with a gate tower topped by half-timbered work and a staircase tower on its eastern side. Inside are multiple exhibition rooms across different levels displaying objects from various time periods.

The site was first documented in 981 under the Slavic name Dibni and served as a key point for controlling the river crossing. It played a role in regional development and securing trade routes.

The castle displays the story of the region and its people across centuries. The exhibitions tell how Bad Düben and the surrounding areas developed over time.

The castle is open daily for visitors and is easily accessible at the top of the hill. The various exhibition rooms allow self-guided exploration of the collections across different levels.

During the Wars of Liberation, Napoleon briefly used the castle as a military headquarters. This episode connects the local monument to major historical events of that era.
