The stone fortress stands on a hilltop, featuring defensive walls, towers, and architectural elements from different construction periods spanning several centuries.
Originally constructed in 1122 under the name Ebbensten, the castle served as the residence for the Lords of Eppstein until their lineage ended in 1535.
The castle hosts outdoor cinema screenings in July and the Eppstein Castle Festival in June, featuring theatrical performances and historical reenactments.
Visitors can access guided tours of the castle grounds and museum, which presents exhibits about regional history and medieval architecture.
