Burg Scharfenberg was a castle at the southwest end of a small ridge north of the village of Scharfenberg, now part of Brilon. It was surrounded by double walls and separated from the rest of the ridge by a ditch, with steep slopes on the other sides. Nothing of it survives: the site was quarried in the 18th century, and a memorial stone before the former moat marks the spot.

Burg Scharfenberg was first mentioned in 1306 as "dat Hus tom Scharpenberge", probably built by Hermann von Padberg after an inheritance division around 1300. Standing on the border between the territories of the Prince-Bishops of Cologne and the Counts of Waldeck, it was destroyed in 1359, 1404 and 1473 during repeated territorial disputes. Partly renovated in 1650, by 1695 only remnants and old masonry survived; Joseph Maria von Weichs built a new manor house about 150 metres further east between 1783 and 1785, auctioned in 1835 and later used as a parsonage.

The name Scharfenberg comes from the noble family von Scharfenberg, who held the house from about 1310 to 1429. The later manor house built in 1783–1785 was auctioned in 1835 by its last owner, Alexander Freiherr von Ledebur, and afterwards served as the village pastorate. A memorial stone before the former moat marks the vanished castle.

No remains of the castle itself survive; the site lies at the southwest end of a small ridge north of the village of Scharfenberg, and a memorial stone stands in front of the former moat. The spot was quarried in the 18th century, so expect uneven ground. The successor manor house built in 1783–1785 stands about 150 metres further east.

The castle was destroyed three times by border disputes: in 1359, 1404 and 1473, standing between the territories of the Cologne prince-bishops and the counts of Waldeck. By 1695 only remnants and old masonry survived, and in the 18th century the site itself was quarried away. A memorial stone before the former moat is all that marks it today.
