Burg Schneidlingen

Burg Schneidlingen is a medieval castle in Hecklingen featuring a trapezoidal layout with four wings arranged around a central space. A moat originally surrounded the structure, fed by water diverted from the Goldbach stream.

The castle was acquired in 1317 by the Halberstadt bishops and became part of their territories. Extensive renovations in Renaissance style took place between 1611 and 1617, reshaping the building.

The castle served the local community after 1945 as both a kindergarten and a retirement home. This dual purpose shaped how residents understood the place as part of their shared daily life.

The central tower stands about 21 meters high with walls approximately 3 meters thick, reflecting sturdy medieval construction. The tower entrance sits well above ground level, which visitors should keep in mind when exploring the site.

The tower displays a Baroque dome and heraldic panels that blend elements from different historical periods. This mix shows how the building was maintained and adapted over centuries while retaining its original character.
