Burg Garz

Burg Garz, Medieval castle in Temnitztal, Germany.

Burg Garz is a castle in Temnitztal with a residential tower as its main structure, built from fieldstone and brick masonry. Its southern side features a polygonal timber-framed staircase tower that connects to the main building.

First mentioned in 1364, the castle belonged to the von Quast family for centuries before the mid-20th century. Ownership changed after 1945 during the Soviet occupation period in this region.

This fortification reflects local noble building traditions through its mix of fieldstone and brick, materials typical of the Brandenburg region. Walking around the courtyard, visitors can read the different construction phases in the walls, each revealing something about how people built in this area over time.

The castle is privately owned and can be viewed from outside, with visitors expected to follow posted access rules. The best view of the building comes from the courtyard area, where it is important to stay clear of residential spaces.

The polygonal timber-framed staircase tower added to the south side in 1681 represents an unusual addition to the older stone structure. This feature shows how the castle adapted to practical needs across different centuries.
